5 German Blogs That I’m Reading

Truth be told, I love following blogs in German not just for the educational aspect but also because I love to look at the photos and dream. With that said, it will come as no surprise to those who know me that several of the bloggers I follow are based in Munich. (Some dream of Paris, I dream of Minga.)

Regardless of where they’re based, blogs written in German can be a great way to practice your language skills. Most aren’t written at an extremely high reading level and aren’t too serious: both of which can be be discouraging when reading newspapers or classic literature. Academic-level texts can be so difficult.

Instead, with blogs, you get a peek into how people actually write and talk. And, depending on what the blogger writes about, you can get a really great feel for what is going on right when the “publish” button was pressed.

Here’s five German language blogs for a mixture of topics that you should check out!

Fashionvictress

Last summer while visiting Munich I was taking photos in Nymphenburger Schlosspark of the autumn-like conditions, with leaves changing color and covering paths through the park. And through the magic of Instagram, I could see that Conny from Fashionvictress was doing the same in Englischergarten. What I enjoy about Fashionvictress are the lovely photos of Munich (and elsewhere) and the simple, classic fashions she features.

The Golden Bun

Whether it’s the newest cafe or restaurant in Munich (and elsewhere!), a cute outfit or a new travel destination, Vicky blogs about it in German and in English on The Golden Bun.

Nachgestern ist vormorgen

Although I enjoy fashion, so often I feel left out in the cold. I prefer a more casual sense of fashion that isn’t a carbon-copy of what everyone else is doing. Esra of Nachgestern ist vormorgen has plenty of personality and you can see it in the clothes she wears. She’s a little funky and a little edgy. Right up my alley.

Plötzblog

Any reader of my blog knows how much I love bread. I mean, what’s not to like? That’s what I love about Plötzblog. It features lots of great recipes for every bread you could ever imagine. Bookmark it now!

Monsieur Muffin

And as much as I love bread, I also love baked goods. That’s where Monsieur Muffin comes in. It is said that we eat with our eyes first and the fantastic photos of delicious recipes like Spekulatius cookies and red currant jam beg to be recreated in your home kitchen. While the recipes aren’t limited to baked goods, each looks tastier than the next.

Those are just five of the blogs in German that I’m reading. What blogs do you subscribe to?
