Salt Caramel Maple Frosted Cinnamon Buns

Not only did this past weekend’s blizzard live up to expectations, it exceeded them. The 6 to 12 inches ended up being more like 25 inches in our neck of the woods. Either way, Saturday was going to be a snow day. In other words, a perfect day for baking. So I decided to whip up some cinnamon buns with a twist: salt caramel maple frosting!

Every time I turn the television on these days there’s another advertisement for a fast food or chain restaurant for their new sandwiches on pretzel rolls. Everywhere it’s pretzel rolls, pretzel rolls, pretzel rolls. Where did this trend come from? I decided to take a stab at the pretzel roll using my favorite soft pretzel recipe and a couple different shaping techniques.

Homemade buttermilk biscuits
I’m not sure how it took me so long to make biscuits. I love them (…much like I like pretty much any bread-based product…). And somehow on our recent trip down south I didn’t get a chance to have any. So when I saw them make buttermilk biscuits on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives a few months ago, I saved the recipe online. It seems kind of funny now considering the hoopla recently related to Guy Fieri. Personally, I don’t really have any opinion on the guy although he seems more than a little goofy and I don’t feel like my taste in food is very similar to his. But whatever. Biscuits!
