Although Munich is regarded as being a large city with a small town feel, it is easy to get wrapped up in the go-go-go of modern city living. You could easily stay in one of the city’s centrally located luxury hotels or more moderately priced hotels or hostels. But why would you? Instead, tucked away on an unassuming residential street in the Nymphenburg district of the Bavarian capital city is Hotel Laimer Hof.
About Hotel Laimer Hof
The family-owned and operated Hotel Laimer Hof isn’t a “luxury” hotel but that is not to sell it short. Built in 1890, the hotel offers small hints of Bavarian charm with wood paneling, solid hardwood furniture with quaint artwork and stained glass windows without feeling out of date. The accommodations in the 23 rooms are modest but comfortable and always clean. The staff is friendly and helpful. With the addition of a daily breakfast buffet stocked with fresh breads, meats, fruits as well as coffee, tea, and juices, it does not feel like a stretch to say the hotel has a bed and breakfast vibe.
The location is ideal for avoiding the otherwise unavoidable hustle and bustle of downtown Munich. This is especially important during the height of the tourist season. It is situated mere blocks from Schloss Nymphenburg and the surrounding acres and acres of park. It is approximately a half mile from Hirschgarten, a family-friendly park and Biergarten that boasts the most seats in the city. The S-Bahn stop (Laim) is also about a half mile away and the tram stop at Romanplatz is even closer. Plus, it has all of those conveniences while still maintaining a quiet, suburban neighborhood feel.
Clean, Comfortable, Quiet & Safe
This is not a snap judgment I’ve made of Hotel Laimer Hof. Between three trips, I have spent over a month in Bavaria and the vast majority of those days was spent at Hotel Laimer Hof. (And on two of the three visits in the exact same room, no less!) If pushed, my only complaint is that the shower could use to be a bit larger. But, admittedly, its size isn’t unusual for Germany. For the most recent trip, I made sure to juggle the travel dates to ensure an available room at the hotel. Admittedly, this seems to be getting more difficult as the hotel is well respected and rooms are in demand.
I trust Hotel Laimer Hof: I know it will be clean, comfortable, quiet and safe.

Parking is available but limited. The hotel has a small parking lot and there is street parking available, if you can find it. However, the hotel is very well connected with public transportation. The Laim S-Bahn stop is about a half mile from the hotel. By bus, the Kemnatenstrasse and Hirschgartenallee stops are only a couple blocks away. Trams and buses are available via Romanplatz, less than a half mile walk.
